“The Late-17th Century Collection of Sermons “Statir”: Poetics, Rhetoric, Context”
Submitted scientific research appears as an attempt of comprehensive review of the late 17th century handwritten collection “Statir” in terms of the author's attitudes revealed at different text levels (graphics, vocabulary, poetics), the rhetorical aspect and the context of its existence ¬– both synchronous and diachronous. The study made it possible to identify the manuscript’s main features by detailed analysis of its texts, special attention was paid to the study of sermon "Word 35. Teaching for the Day of the Three Hierarchs...". Revealing a synchronous context involved comparing the representation of the word and wisdom concepts in the “Statir” manuscript and in the collections of Simeon Polotsky as one of the most authoritative preachers of that era, as well as examining the literary context of manuscript’s existence. The diachronic aspect was taken into account by studying intertextual inclusions in sermons. Studying the system of symbols allowed to detect the inclusion of the monument in a wide historical and cultural context. The author of the manuscript can be considered as a high-level master of the artistic word, who creatively rethought canonical texts with obvious reliance on homiletic tradition of his era.
