This master's thesis examines the development of elderly human resources in Beijing within the context of a rapidly aging population. Drawing upon theories from demography, human resource management, and sustainable development, the thesis provides a comprehensive framework for understanding the challenges and opportunities presented by an aging workforce in Beijing.
The study found that while older workers in Beijing possess valuable skills and experience, they face significant challenges in re-entering the workforce, including age discrimination, limited job opportunities, and concerns about health and well-being. The research also revealed that older workers are generally open to re-employment and have a strong desire for continuous learning and development, emphasizing the need for a more supportive environment for this segment of the workforce.
In the 1st chapter, to provide background information on the accelerating trend of population aging and its impact on the labor market, the pension security system, and healthcare services in Beijing.
In section 2.2, to describe the current situation of geriatric human resources working in Beijing, using literature analysis and government statistics.
In section 2.3, to conduct interviews with older adults, managers, and policy researchers to obtain first-hand information and learn about their attitudes, expectations, and challenges.
In section 2.4, to design and conduct a questionnaire survey to test the hypotheses and further explore the current status and development strategies of geriatric human resources.
In the 3rd chapter, to propose policy recommendations based on the findings of the research, including providing training opportunities, improving the working environment, increasing welfare benefits, promoting social participation, and enacting or strengthening the enforcement of anti-age discrimination laws.
In conclusion, the results are summed up in accordance with the tasks set
The thesis argues for a strategic approach to developing elderly human resources that includes combating ageism, investing in skills development, promoting engagement, and supporting cognitive function. It also emphasizes the importance of integrating the development of elderly human resources into a broader framework of sustainable development, ensuring that economic growth is balanced with social equity and environmental sustainability.
By implementing the policy recommendations presented in the thesis, Beijing can create a more inclusive and supportive environment for older workers, harnessing their valuable skills and experience to contribute to the city's economic growth and social well-being. This will not only benefit older workers but also contribute to a more sustainable and equitable future for all.
