The rapid urbanization and transformation of cities into metropolitan areas have significantly impacted global demographics, economic activities, and environmental sustainability over the last century. This paper aims to analyze the impact of contemporary urban trends on city competitiveness through statistical analysis and econometric modeling. The study examines the definition and key indicators of competitiveness, focusing on employment, productivity, and disposable income. It also delves into the concept of urban attractiveness, which plays an integral role in shaping the competitiveness of a city or urban area. Furthermore, the research underscores the transformative potential of strategic urban planning and governance in enhancing city competitiveness. It validates the significance of spatial efficiency, institutional development in local governance, and air pollution reduction in catalyzing economic growth and fostering an attractive urban environment for residents and businesses. Based on the findings, the paper provides policy recommendations for comprehensive urban planning strategies, strict air quality regulations, and the enhancement of institutional capacity in local governance.
