Аннотация
Demographic factors such as the gender and age composition of the population, urbanization, and the level of education significantly affect the creation of new small and medium-sized businesses. The purpose of this work is to analyze the impact of demographic indicators of the population of developed countries on the dynamics of the number of small and medium-sized enterprises using statistical analysis and econometric modeling.
The paper examines the main definitions of small and medium-sized businesses, differences in the classification of enterprises by size in the context of developed countries. The main attention is paid to the consideration of various economic, institutional and demographic factors that have the greatest impact on the development of small and medium-sized enterprises. The study argues that urban urbanization, a large proportion of the young population and a high level of education of the population stimulate the development of small and medium-sized enterprises in developed countries.
The work uses data on the number of small and medium-sized enterprises for the period 2002-2022 for 33 developed countries according to the classification of the International Monetary Fund and demographic indicators of the population of developed countries. Regressions with fixed and random individual effects, as well as quantile regression, were used to analyze the panel data. According to the results of the study, policy recommendations were proposed to support small and medium-sized businesses, taking into account the influence of demography.
