Sustainable development addresses the complex of interrelated challenges facing the global economy and society, from climate change to inequality. Social entrepreneurship promotes sustainable development by providing innovative solutions to social and environmental problems. However, social enterprises often have difficulties with securing necessary funding due to priority of social impact over profit. Crowdfunding emerged as an important financing tool for social entrepreneurs, allowing them to access resources needed and engage a wider audience in supporting their ventures. Understanding the success factors of crowdfunding campaigns in social entrepreneurship can increase the likelihood of campaign success and drive the growth of social ventures, ultimately contributing to a more sustainable future.
The purpose of the research is to study the factors determining the success of crowdfunding campaigns in social entrepreneurship and consider their application in countries with different stages of crowdfunding development. The object of the research is crowdfunding as a tool for financing business. The subject of the research is application of crowdfunding in social entrepreneurship in countries at different levels of development of these concepts.
This study examines the factors that influence the success of crowdfunding campaigns in social entrepreneurship across the United States, United Kingdom, and Russian Federation. Through a case study analysis, the research identifies key categories of determinants such as project characteristics, project description, creator attributes, reward structure, engagement, and social proof, and reveals both universal and country-specific features in their relative importance. The results highlight the need for social entrepreneurs to adapt their crowdfunding strategies to the local context, leveraging the most effective success factors and open new opportunities for sustainable social and environmental impact. The comprehensive framework provided can help social entrepreneurs develop more effective crowdfunding strategies, contributing to the growth and success of social entrepreneurship initiatives worldwide.
