Traditional literature in operations management has always ignored or undervalued the critical role of human behavior, assuming
that people are emotionless and always behave rationally, this assumption led to disregard human behavior as a key factor affecting nearly all processes in operations.
today’s researchers have been forced to move past traditional operations management to a broader solution that includes human behavior as a critical key success of operations management tools and techniques.
Behavioral operations management is one of the recent trends in operations management.
the main goal of BOM is to include human behavior in the operations as a critical factor impact the outputs of this system and how behavior get impacted by the policies of operations.
Behavioral operations management comprises many areas. Based on a categorization of BOM studies, the main subject areas include supply chain management (27%), new product development and project management (17%), quality management (11%), production management (10%), inventory management (8%), service management (7%), conceptual studies (7%), forecasting (4%), and others (9%). In this research, we focus on key areas in behavioral operations management, including, new product development and project management, quality management, production anagement, inventory management, service management, and forecasting.
