E-commerce has become a popular business form in the digital society, with the widespread popularity of information and communication technology leading to its development. The COVID pandemic in 2020 brought both opportunities and challenges for e-commerce development, revolutionizing traditional business models and creating new opportunities for businesses to expand their reach. During more than a decade of development, e-commerce has been called by many different names, such as "online commerce", "cybernetic commerce", "e-business", and "paperless commerce", etc. However, recently, the term "e-commerce" has become popular and widely accepted, being used in international legal documents, although other names may still be used and understood. This thesis explores the global e-commerce market, focusing on factors contributing to the success of Shopee, a leading e-commerce platform in Vietnam. The study uses quantitative and qualitative methods, including market data analysis and user surveys, to analyze Shopee's business strategy, operating model, and market penetration strategy. The findings provide insights into the broad impacts of global e-commerce and the local industry in Vietnam, contributing to a comprehensive understanding of interactions between international e-commerce platforms and industry developments in the region. The global online commerce landscape is evolving in a sustainable and socially responsible way.
