Аннотация

This study analyzes the impact of sanctions on countries' participation in Global value chains using data from GSDB, Euro Database and Gravity dataset for the period 1990-2021. The results show different responses to sanctions in terms of participation in GVC forward and backward participation. Some models show a tendency for sanctions to have a positive impact in both directions, while others do not. Cultural and social variables also affect country participation differently. In addition to this, their participation in GVCs is also influenced by geographical or historical factors. Nevertheless, there are still several options for how countries can participate with each other, even in the face of strong targeted sanctions.
