The study of food security is an important task, since it allows us to assess the level of food availability for the population, as well as to determine the factors affecting the quality and quantity of food produced. In this paper, an econometric study of food security in Russia and the SCO countries was carried out and a panel data model with a fixed method was used for analysis. The study period is from 2000 to 2020 for 8 countries.
The purpose of this study is to assess the state of food security in Russia and the SCO countries. The object of this study is food security in the Russian Federation and the SCO countries. The subject of the study is the assessment of the state and factors affecting the food security of Russia and the SCO countries.
This thesis examines the theoretical aspects of ensuring the country's food security, various approaches to the definition of the concept, global trends in the world food market, sustainable development and the impact of factors on the food security of Russia and the SCO countries. Econometric analysis of panel data was chosen as the main methodological tool. An additional method used in the study is the global Food Security Index, which shows the level of availability, accessibility, quality and stability of food security in different countries.
According to the general global food security index in the SCO countries and the criteria of accessibility, adaptation to changes in the environment, food availability and safety, the leading positions are occupied by such countries as China - 74.2 points, Kazakhstan-72.1 points and Russia-69.1 points. These countries have a sufficiently developed food security system among the rest of the SCO countries. In addition, after analysing the data, we can say that GDP per capita, grain yields and foreign direct investment, freshwater abstraction and greenhouse gas emissions have a significant impact on food security in this group of countries.
