AVIATION INDUSTRY UNDER NEW GLOBAL ORDER
Аннотация
The aviation industry plays a key role in today’s economy. It employs millions of people and contributes $3.5 trillion to global GDP. However, Covid-19 was a massive hit for that sector, pushing airlines and companies to dismiss employees, go bankrupt, get loans, and be financially helped by governments. The industry must also face all sorts of challenges and implement new strategies and solutions to cope with
them. Today’s main challenges are sustainability, the creation of a new business model adapted to new trends, and digitalisation.
The aim and objectives of this thesis are to understand the role this industry has on the world nowadays, how it recently developed, and what will the future trends and challenges be. I will also give recommendations to address those challenges. The results show that airlines are still recovering from the pandemic, and currently have a bad financial welfare, despite loans and government support. Plus, by 2050, 9 billion passengers are expected to use air transport. New alternatives must be
found to reduce CO2 emissions, such as sustainable fuels or electric aircraft. Another finding is the importance of digitalisation: airlines and airports must now invest in digitalisation as it is at the centre of customer experience. The more digitalised an airline is, the more competitive it shall be.
