One of the key indicators of a country's economic growth is foreign direct investment (FDI). The orientation of Russian companies to more potential markets will allow them to explore foreign markets with greater efficiency and profitability. Typical prerequisites for FDI in most Russian TNCs are consolidation, retention or expansion of markets or access to resources for production. On the part of the government, an increase in the qualitative outflow of FDI will increase the long-term impact on the world market by expanding, as well as strengthening influence in the global supply chain, and will allow for expansion in the world market. The purpose of this study is to identify the factors determining the outflow of foreign direct investment from the Russian Federation, as well as to identify the most potential regions for investment.
In this study, the object is the Russian economy, which makes direct investments abroad. The subject of the study is the factors determining the outflow of foreign direct investment. When testing the gravity model, various testing methods are used, such as panel data with a random effect and the method of pseudo-maximal Poisson likelihood (PPML).
Summing up, Russian economy as a whole is close to its investment potential. The study identified the factors determining the outflow of FDI, analyzed the potential and identified the most promising regions for investment: EU countries, East Asia and the CIS. The key motivational aspects of increasing the outflow of foreign direct investment to Russia were also identified. Summing up, it is worth noting that the investment policy of Russian companies should change the direction of investment in more potential regions and develop the direction of investment in new markets
