There is much research regarding the stock market of different countries. For a long time the country with the strongest economy in the world has been the United States and so has been its stock market. The purpose of my research is to try to find ways that can help new investors safeguard their money and make some profits on the US Stock Market. I have performed this research based on information found on internet articles on many investment websites. The stock market is a machine that works 24/7 7 days a week and there is always news regarding different companies and the stock market as a whole. I have searched for specific news and looked for the most reliable sources online. Moreover, I have also used my personal accounts from different trading applications to describe them and also used their historical data regarding stock prices and also news. My research has been divided into 3 different stages. The first chapter will focus on an overview of the stock market. Here I will describe the stock market and what are the factors that have historically made people earn or lose money. I will also speak about the historical role of retail investors. One of the main focuses of this chapter will be the risks for retail investors like institutional manipulation and short selling. In the second chapter I will be speaking about the ways technology has affected the stock market. I will speak about the new tools that have become available to retail investors. I will speak about the online brokers which have given access to the stock market to more retail investors than ever. Moreover, I will also speak about how social media platforms influence the stock market pretty much on the daily. Of course it will be necessary to explain whether technology has helped the retail investors or not. My third and final chapter will focus on whether there is room for improvement. Can technology play a bigger role in the fight to bring fairness to the stock market? Or will the big investment companies from Wall Street always control the market.
